Guided tour of the library – Abbaye des Prémontrés
Discover the secrets of the Abbaye des Prémontrés on a guided tour of the library! This escapade will plunge you into the heart of the 17th and 18th centuries, through old books and great restored works. A one-hour journey through literature, history and science, with children’s literature published by the Imagerie de Pont-à-Mousson to discover on site.
Tucked away on the second floor of the Abbaye des Prémontrés, the Grandpierre library is home to a wealth of bookshelves. Paying homage to the former library destroyed in 1944, it houses a priceless collection, including authentic works of Mussipont publishing from the 1600s.
This guided tour will take us back to our roots, and shed light on part of Pont-à-Mousson’s history. Rare collections by personalities of the period will be on view only during this exceptional event. Enthusiasts will also be able to learn about ancient writing and engraving techniques, as well as book restoration methods.
In addition to words and illustrations, this historic journey will also include unparalleled architectural explorations. Let yourself be carried away by the décor that architect Nicolas Pierson left his mark on. Stroll through the garden and admire the monastic beauty of the Abbey. For moments of artistic immersion, the tour also includes free access to the building’s current exhibitions.
