After an evening of wellbeing in Niederbronn-les-Bains, this 3rd stage through the forest will take you on a discovery of new châteaux and their history.

From Niederbronn-les-Bains, you'll no doubt have caught sight of Wasenbourg castle. It's just over a 3km walk from the spa. Although the castle was built in the Middle Ages, the site appears to have been occupied as far back as Antiquity. Gallo-Roman remains of a temple dedicated to Mercury can be found here. The ruins of the castle are still clearly visible, despite erosion and the passage of time. Its imposing defensive shield wall, splendid Gothic window and sculpted head in the knights' hall take you straight back to the 12th century!

After a break in the watchman's üte, continue your gentle ascent towards the Wasenkoepfel Panoramic Tower. More modest in size than the Tour du Grand Wintersberg discovered on the previous stage, the Tower offered a panoramic view of the surrounding area. Today, the view is limited by the vegetation and if you try to climb it, you'll almost touch the treetops!

Your route continues through the forest. It's not until the end of this 3rd stage that the Lichtenberg castle comes into view at 400m altitude. Although its construction dates back to the 13th century, you'll be exploring 9 centuries of history and architecture during your visit! From the castle's terraces, admire the exceptional panoramic view over the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park. A lively cultural venue, the château now hosts exhibitions and theatrical performances, and is also home to the Heritage Interpretation Centre.
