Dive into the fascinating world of marbled paper art, a UNESCO-listed Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, during an exceptional weekend with Zeynep Usyal! This renowned artist will take you through the history and secrets of this ancient technique.
During this weekend, Zeynep Usyal will offer you a glimpse into the rich past of traditional ébru art, a paper decoration method that has long adorned the covers of precious books. You will learn how the paints are delicately projected onto water and transformed into patterns using combs and styluses before being transferred onto paper.
Zeynep discovered this technique in Turkey after a discovery internship, then followed training with a Master Marbler in Izmir. Since then, she has refined her techniques and shares them passionately. During the workshop, you will get hands-on experience: you will use traditional tools and pigments-based paints prepared on-site to create your own artwork, experimenting with both classic and modern patterns.

L'Atelier du Papier marbré
One day, I discovered a book decorated with a circular paper called Ebru. Understanding, discovering and unravelling the mystery of this 18-century paper led me to the door of my marble master in Izmir, Turkey. This was the beginning of my quest for personal and professional harmony for over 13 years. Today, I'm known as a "marble artist on paper". The imprint of my artistic identity lies between tradition and creation.
I work with an ancient paper-decorating technique, which involves floating paint on a liquid surface and then completing the printing process by transferring the print onto the paper. This art known as Ebru (marbled paper) has been on UNESCO's intangible World Heritage list since 2014.
