The Alsace Ecomuseum welcomed its first visitors in 1984 and is now the largest open-air museum in France. Arranged like a small 20th-century village, it will take you on a real journey through time via its rural heritage. Its layout also represents nature and the landscape through fields and gardens. It houses over 80 buildings representing Alsatian architecture from that era. Among them, you will find half-timbered houses, which were the homes of villagers. Discover also a school, a train station, a chapel, farms, and artisan workshops.
Nearly 40,000 objects are collected at the Alsace Ecomuseum: antique furniture, clothing and accessories, as well as tools. At the Alsace Ecomuseum, customs and traditions reveal their facets. Various exhibitions, activities, and participatory experiences take place throughout the year to showcase local cuisine, craftsmanship, agriculture, and more.
Traditional festivals, boat or cart rides, collaborative projects are organized throughout the seasons. For example, the folk music festival, the conscripts’ egg hunt, the harvest festival, the procession of the feuillu, summer night events, and many more are on the agenda.

Today, the Ecomusée d'Alsace consists of a village of 80 buildings representative of Alsace at the beginning of the 20th century, all dismantled from their commune of origin and reassembled in the museum. Around the village, on an area of 97 hectares, you'll find 4 signposted trails to discover biodiversity, as well as agricultural areas in biological transition.
Be curious! Push open the door of each house to discover the treasures it contains: a converted interior, an exhibition, a craftsman's workshop or a stable with animals!
