Visit of the Eperon Battery
Are you interested in history and discovery? Come and visit La Batterie de l’Éperon with your family or friends! Built between 1879 and 1883, this unique defense system offers a fascinating journey through time. It’s an opportunity to shed some light on French history, while discovering the footprints left by the 2 Great Wars!
This 2-hour guided historical tour plunges you into the heart of an exceptional French fortified heritage site. Built in the wake of the French defeat in 1870, La Batterie de l’Éperon is a Séré de Rivières structure designed to defend the border against the Germans. It contains unique defensive elements, including two exceptional Mougin model 1880 casemates, the only ones of their kind in Lorraine, and a Galopin model 1890 eclipse turret, the very last example in France.
During your visit, you’ll discover the key components of this defense system, with access to the interior and exterior of the battery. You’ll also be able to try out blank firing with the 155 mm Galopin turret, and for even more discoveries, the doors to the exhibition rooms will be open to you during the outing. In particular, you’ll have access to the museum, with amazing exhibits spread over 80 m². You’ll find uniforms, weaponry, optics and equipment used in the First and Second World Wars.
