The Nancy Tourist Office invites you on a journey back in time to discover the capital of the Dukes of Lorraine.
Tracing Nancy’s history from the Middle Ages to the integration of the Duchy of Lorraine into the Kingdom of France, this guided tour will take you to the city’s most iconic sites, including the famous Place Stanislas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Built by Stanislas Leszczynski to connect Charles III’s New Town with the Old Town, Place Stanislas is an unmissable gem. You’ll admire the classical architecture of its facades, the elegance of its gold-accented railings, and the poetic beauty of its fountains. You’ll understand why Nancy is nicknamed the “City of Golden Gates.” Along with Place de la Carrière and Place d’Alliance, it is part of the UNESCO-listed Royal Ensemble.
In the historic center, the Palace of the Dukes is sure to fascinate you with its flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Take a few more steps and you’ll come to the Cordeliers Church, which houses the tombs of the Dukes of Lorraine. Not far from there, the imposing Porte de la Craffe marks the northern boundary of the medieval city.
