Introduction to the Art of Tasting, Ammerschwihr
Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Domaine Etienne Simonis, where passion for wine blends with the art of tasting. Nestled in Ammerschwihr, this exceptional establishment opens its doors to you for a one-hour sensory experience. This renowned winery invites you to discover wines of excellence from vineyards nestled on the enchanting hillsides of Ammerschwihr, Alsace.
As soon as you arrive, let your senses be awakened. You’ll be invited to a guided tasting, orchestrated by a wine expert. He or she will guide you through the various stages of tasting, revealing the subtleties of the wines produced by the estate. Accessible to all wine lovers, this formula will enable you to taste six carefully selected organic/biodynamic wines, in a convivial workshop that can accommodate 2 to 10 people.
The program begins with a visual observation session, where you contemplate the color of the wine in your glass, scrutinizing its hue, brilliance, intensity and clarity under the glow of a light source. You’ll discover that white wine ranges in hue from straw yellow to gold, while red wine evolves from bright ruby to amber. These elements will give you clues as to the grape variety, age and quality of the wine.
Once observation is complete, olfactory analysis is essential to capture the aromas and notes escaping from the wine. Your palate will then be called upon to evaluate the wine’s flavors, paying particular attention to its structure, texture, acidity, sweetness and tannins. This step will help you determine whether the wine is balanced, complex and harmonious. Finally, you’ll be invited to assess the persistence of flavors on the palate, as well as the sensation they elicit. Another facet of the art of tasting is discovering harmonious pairings between wines and traditional Alsatian dishes.
Throughout this tasting adventure, don’t hesitate to ask Etienne Simonis’ wine expert for advice. He’ll be your guide, answering all your questions and providing you with additional information on the wines you’re tasting. Keep in mind that wine tasting is a subjective experience, with each person having unique preferences. Trust your palate and allow yourself to explore the many aromas and flavors that Domaine Etienne Simonis wines have to offer. This experience will be the ideal opportunity to develop your tasting skills and deepen your appreciation of Alsace wines.
