Usually closed to the public, the Villa Mathieu is exceptionally opening its doors for a special visit. Built between 1936 and 1938 near the Mathieu factory, this elegant residence is a testament to the refinement of Art Deco architecture.
Commissioned by Rémond Alexandre Mathieu, then head of the family business, it illustrates a certain art of living between the wars. Inside, renowned craftsmen created the meticulous decorations: the painter Auguste Ramel created the ornaments in the living room, while the stained-glass windows, the work of Nancy master glassmaker William Geissler, sublimate the spaces by diffusing a subtle light. Damaged during the bombardments of 1940, the villa was restored by architect Gaston Schmit, who took care to preserve its original elegance.
