Guided tour of the Récollets Convent
A real historical stronghold of the city of Sézanne, the Convent of the Recollets is quite mysterious with its unique architecture, its old chapel and its luminous works of art. Discover this religious building decorated with luminous works of art, full of color and warmth, painted and installed on the spot by Brother Luc, one of the major painters of his time; and who, before entering religion, was called ... Claude François!
The Convent of the Recollets is located within the walls of the hospital of Sézanne and includes a chapel and a cloister. The cloister is in the middle of conventual buildings from 3 different periods. The most notable part has large windows in the Champagne style and small windows with old stained glass.
On the walls of the chapel, the paintings of Brother Luc captivate the curious as well as the great art lovers. Brother Luc is a monk painter of the 17th century. He owes his knowledge to the teaching of his masters Poussin and Simon Vouet. His exceptional talent created warm works full of colors and intensity, retracing the periods of the Holy History and the life of St. Francis of Assisi with great humanity.
Free for those under 18, this 90-minute guided tour takes you to the chapel and cloister and through the medieval city. You will then see a city filled with history and unusual places. Discreet, beautiful and endearing, Sézanne charms with delicacy and promises memorable moments. The city is worth the detour!
