Verdun Memorial
The Verdun Memorial, created by veterans under the aegis of Maurice Genevoix, is anchored in the heart of the Verdun Battlefield. Completely renovated in 2016, this museum offers an immersion in the battle. Thanks to a unique collection and audiovisual displays, you’ll get a close-up view of what soldiers, both French and German, experienced on the Verdun battlefield.
Douaumont Fort
Fort de Douaumont is the largest structure in the stronghold of Verdun. Occupied by the Germans for most of the battle, it was subjected to incessant bombardment. A visit to this « giant » is an authentic immersion in the place where thousands of soldiers lived and fought. Fort Douaumont is an emblematic site of the Battle of Verdun.
Fort de Vaux
In 1916, Fort de Vaux was bombarded by nearly 8,000 shells a day. Its garrison resisted and fought heroically, before being forced to surrender through exhaustion. The fort became a symbol of the resistance of the Verdun soldier. A visit to Fort de Vaux will let you feel the unspeakable intensity of the fighting during the Battle of Verdun.
