From Nancy to Toul, the Moselle Loop takes in a rich cultural, industrial and military heritage, as well as the Côtes de Toul AOC vineyards. This stage can be done as a loop, starting and finishing in Nancy. The 85km route can also be split into several sections.
Both the start and finish of the stage, the city with the golden gates boasts a varied heritage. From its famous Place Stanislas, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the Place Carrière and Place d'Alliance, to its Art Nouveau buildings and its charming medieval old town, Nancy has it all! For a gastronomic break, don't hesitate to sample the local specialities. Bergamot de Nancy (IGP) and macaroons, quiche or pâté lorrain, not forgetting the indisputable mirabelle plum: Nancy is a must for epicureans!
Following the loop from north to south, your pedal strokes will take you to Pompey, whose history is closely linked to Lorraine's steelmaking epic. Although completely dismantled, the Aciéries de Pompey have left their mark on many monuments around the world. Did you know that it was this plant that supplied the beams and rivets for the Eiffel Tower? Across the Atlantic, the iron in the structure of the Statue of Liberty in New York also came from Lorraine's factories! An interactive history trail takes visitors on a journey through the world of iron and the steelworks that produced these monuments.
A little further afield, the medieval town of Liverdun will delight gourmets with its famous madeleines! Push open the gates of Château Corbin and take a break in the shade of the park's century-old trees. And don't forget to admire the panoramic view over the Moselle loop and the Eaux Bleues estate!
Continue your escapade on two wheels and reach Toul. For lovers of old buildings: its eight-hundred-year-old Gothic cathedral and Vauban ramparts have earned Toul the title of Plus Beaux Détours de France (Most Beautiful Detours in France). Enhance your visit with a tasting of AOC Côtes de Toul wines*, produced not far from the former episcopal city. The famous gris de Toul will surprise you!
Resuming your journey towards Méréville, take a break at Villey-le-Sec to fully appreciate the stronghold of Toul and its defence system. The fort inherited from Séré de Rivières can now be visited by miniature train.
Your last stop is Neuves-Maisons, where you can explore the Val de Fer mines and follow in the footsteps of former miners as they travel through miles of underground galleries.
