As you leave Thionville, you'll be amazed to pass close to the two lock bridges. These two structures, masterpieces of 18th-century military engineering, had several functions. Both water crossings and ramparts, they confirm the defensive role played by the town of Thionville throughout history.

A little further on, Lorraine reveals a more industrial side. Pass through Illange, the leading river port for metal products. In Uckange, stop off at the former U4 blast furnace. This is one of the few remaining examples of 20th-century steelmaking in France, bearing witness to the huge economic boom in the whole region. Although activity ceased in 1991, the site has undergone an exceptional revival and is now a place of culture and heritage. At its foot, the surprising Jardin des Traces is a fine example of the conversion of a brownfield site. Let yourself be guided by the former steelworkers, true witnesses and passers-by of the memory of Lorraine's steel epic.

As you continue towards Metz, your next break at Amnéville-les-Thermes will be one of relaxation and entertainment! The Amnéville leisure centre offers around sixty activities: fun at the Walygator Grand Est amusement park, wellness activities at the thermal centre, animal encounters at Amnéville zoo, tree climbing at France Aventures, indoor skiing at SnowWorld... there's something for all tastes and all ages!

The Voie Bleue route then passes through pleasant ponds and wetlands.
When you arrive in Metz, take time to wander through the cobbled streets of the historic centre to discover the Cour d'Or Museum - Metz Eurometropole and Saint-Etienne's Cathedral. Passing through the Germanic-influenced railway station, your stroll will take you to the emblematic Centre Pompidou-Metz, with its contemporary architecture and collections. A veritable garden city, Metz can also be explored by strolling along the water's edge along the ramparts, or even on the water aboard a boat.
