Off to the Ardennes!

Your bike ride along the Meuse now takes you into the Ardennes. Through gently rolling countryside, you'll discover the Petite Cité de Caractère (small town) of Mouzon all the way to Sedan and its fortified castle, the largest in Europe!

The landscapes change constantly along the Meuse. You'll pass through beautiful valleys and flower-filled meadows as you head north towards the Ardennes, from Stenay and towards Sedan.

Stop off at Mouzon, a Petite Cité de Caractère with medieval charm: you can discover its former abbey and its beautiful gardens, stroll through the nave of its Gothic church built in the 13th century, and its spectacular 18th-century organ. You can also take the opportunity to visit the amazing Musée du Feutre, the only one of its kind in France. Housed in the former abbey barn, it traces the history of the textile industry that made the town famous in the 19th century. The medieval remains, including the Porte de Bourgogne, bear witness to Mouzon's strategic trading position on the banks of the river.

Fancy a fun break? Lac de Douzy is the perfect place for cyclists of all ages to enjoy a swim (with slides!), or a family paddle, canoe or pedalo session. Land-lovers can try their hand at mini-golf or trampolining... or just enjoy a welcome break by the lake.

Get back in the saddle and follow the river, still heading north: here you are in Sedan, home to the largest fortified castle in Europe, covering an area of 35,000 m2! Contemplate six centuries of history on an immersive tour of the impressive building. Every year, the Medieval Festival takes you back in time, with music, shows and entertainment. Stroll through the narrow streets of Sedan, admiring its yellow-brick buildings and characterful town houses, witnesses to the town's military, industrial and religious past.
