The lakes of the Vosges Massif are real jewels nestling in the heart of the mountains. Nicknamed "the Pearl of the Vosges", Gérardmer lake is the largest in the region, nestling at an altitude of 660 metres. In winter, its tranquillity is almost unreal: the snow-covered hills and fir trees offer a magnificent landscape to walkers as they circumnavigate it. For those wishing to go further afield in search of peace and quiet, there is Lac de Longemer and Lac de Retournemer, particularly popular with the locals. The Lac Blanc in the Kaysersberg valley is another emblematic feature of the Vosges Massif. In the snow, Lac Blanc offers a truly picture-postcard landscape: a haven of peace surrounded by snow-covered nature, it's the ideal place to take a snowshoe hike to the heights and reach some spectacular viewpoints.

Sports activities

With its accessible mountains, dense forests, lakes and vast open spaces, the Vosges Massif offers a multitude of possibilities. Snow sports enthusiasts can try their hand at snowshoeing, snowboarding and, of course, skiing at resorts such as La Bresse-Hohneck, the largest ski resort in north-east France, and Gérardmer. A wide range of routes offer hikers the chance to embark on a guided walk through the Vosges countryside, providing a superb travelling show.
