5 breathtaking viewpoints on the GR5 in Eastern France

We're getting ready to take in the sights in the Grand Est. With its hilly landscapes and exceptional viewpoints, there are so many wonders to discover from the air!

The Lac des Perches for a sunset

Nestling in an ancient glacial cirque at an altitude of 1000 metres, the Lac des Perches is the ideal spot to admire the sunset. Once you've reached the summit, you can sit back and enjoy the unrivalled view. The dense, majestic fir forest encircles the lake, reflecting its soothing green colour. This vivid tableau invites you to deep relaxation, awakening every one of your senses. At the end of the evening, the celestial spectacle can begin, as the sun melts into the horizon, red and orange hues tinting the sky.

The wow effect: the flights of the birds captivate us, while the fragrance of the fir trees intoxicates us.

Picnic perched high at the summit of the Grand Ballon

Also known as the Ballon de Guebwiller, the summit of the Grand Ballon is the highest point in the Vosges Massif at 1424 metres. Without further ado, we set up our Alsatian and Vosges-influenced picnic to enjoy a fine meal with a 5-star panorama! We can't get enough of the panoramic view over the rolling countryside of the Alsace Plain and the sumptuous fir trees of the Black Forest.

Keep your eyes peeled: on a clear day, you can see the Swiss Alps.

Pic-nic, bière, pain, charcuterie

The Hohneck summit for nature lovers

The third highest peak in the Vosges Massif, the Hohneck culminates at 1363 metres in the commune of La Bresse. An exceptional view requires an exceptional route, and with good reason: the biodiversity of the Hohneck is one of the richest in the Vosges Massif: thanks to its typical sub-alpine vegetation, you can wander through wild bilberry bushes, peat bogs and fir forests before reaching your destination. A 360° panorama overlooking the ridge line that separates Lorraine and Alsace: a view that goes on forever!

And you'll have the chance to spot chamois, brown hares and Vosges cows!

Mont Sainte-Odile for the whole family

At an altitude of 764 metres, the summit of Mont-Sainte-Odile is accessible to all the family: equipped with good hiking boots, the ascent is easy. Not far from the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park, the summit offers superb panoramic views over the Alsace plain. The Merovingian sanctuary nestling at the summit is well worth a visit: this religious site welcomes pilgrims and tourists who come to visit and enjoy the natural, wooded panorama.

Children will love the remains of the Pagan Wall on the way back, an ideal setting for tales and legends...

The 3 châteaux overlooking Ribeauvillé

A must-see, the view from the 3 castles is like stepping back in time! Here you can reach Saint-Ulrich, Girsberg and Haut Ribeaupierre, the eponymous castles of the three Ribeaupierre brothers who watched over the town. Although there are several routes to reach them, it takes around 3 hours to reach the fortresses overlooking the medieval town of Ribeauvillé: the beauty of the scenery is breathtaking. You'll never tire of the contrast between ancient stone and lush green Alsatian plains.

The adventure continues: we continue the medieval experience by finishing the hike in the town of Ribeauvillé.
