A deafening noise, and suddenly, a spectacle of beauty! Waterfalls have a fascinating charm, a skilful blend of natural power and poetry. Discover the most beautiful waterfalls in Lorraine, most of them nestling in the exceptional forest landscapes of the Vosges. Here's a selection of waterfalls in Lorraine you won't want to miss, whether they're the icing on the cake of a hike or a cool oasis in summer!

Le Saut de la Bourrique
Head for an emblematic waterfall near Gérardmer: the Saut de la Bourrique. To get there, a lovely hike starts near the Lac de Gérardmer water sports centre. Take the path that climbs through the undergrowth and runs alongside the stream. The little wooden and stone bridges make the route fun for the little ones and charming for the grown-ups! In the midst of these enchanting landscapes, the sound of the waterfall makes for a refreshing and magical experience!

Le Saut du Bouchot
Dreaming of a wonderful, rejuvenating place in the heart of the Vosges? Then head for Saut du Bouchot, just 15 minutes from Gérardmer. The waterfall is easily reached by car (a car park overlooks the waterfall) or on foot, for a pleasant family walk. It is located along the Bouchot, the river that meanders through the Rochesson valley before plunging down to Sapois. The key? A picture-postcard setting, with a 28-metre waterfall reverberating through an incredible natural cirque! In fine weather, you can swim in the river or sit on the rocks for a refreshing break.

The Charlemagne waterfall
Located in the commune of Xonrupt-Longemer, the Cascade Charlemagne takes its name from a legend: Charlemagne quenched his thirst here in 806, as he crossed the Vosges Massif on his way to Alsace. In the image of the Frankish king, let yourself be charmed by this waterfall buried in the forest. A lovely walk around Lac de Retournemer will take you there. Make sure you bring walking shoes to reach the top, as the path is steep. Less well known than its neighbours, this waterfall is sure to surprise you with its successive small waterfalls!

The Mérelle waterfall
On the heights of Gérardmer, not far from the Tour de la Mérelle, which offers a magnificent panorama of the lake, lies the Cascade de la Mérelle. To get there, you'll have to take a hiking trail that climbs through rocks and fir trees, with magnificent scenery in the background. Once you've reached your destination, take advantage of the flow of water from the cascade to recharge your batteries in the heart of nature. You'll enjoy it even more out of season, after the snow has melted in spring, or in autumn, when the first mushrooms are in full bloom!
