Trail running in the Grand Est: a top sport!

Lovers of open-air sports and wide-open spaces are well catered for when it comes to taking part inone of the major trail races in the Grand Est region! A number of renowned competitions criss-cross the region, from Alsace to the Ardennes, via the Vosges foothills and the Champagne region, giving you the chance to discover these natural settings in short strides!

Ardenne

June - The Ardenne Mega Trail

In June, why not discover theArdennes? Ranging from 13 to 85 kilometres, the Ardenne Méga Trail offers 4 different races to suit everyone! Whether you're a seasoned trail runner or not, let the beauty of the Meuse and Semoy valleys flash before your eyes on an unforgettable circuit. Note to connoisseurs: the race is a qualifier for the UTMB®.

The Champagne region

July - The Trail des Tordus

It's hard to talk about races in Champagne without mentioning its exceptional vineyards! The "Trail des tordus" doesn't take its name from the runners who take part every year, but from the tortuous vines that line the route. This sporting event in July is a great opportunity to explore the Montagne de Reims Nature Park, including the Faux de Verzy, classified as a Forest of Exception. Don't miss the spectacular view over the prestigious vineyards from the Moulin de Verzenay, just before the final finish.

November - The Sparnatrail

In November, the Champagne region celebrates! Discover the Champagne hills and its capital, Epernay, by taking part in the Sparnatrail. Take the opportunity to cross the Hautvillers vineyards, a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Lorraine

March - The Trail des Tranchées

In March, runners young and old meet up in Lorraine for the Trail des Tranchées. This race, a blend of nature and history, takes you across the infamous Verdun battlefield and the Douaumont Ossuary. A memorable experience.

The Vosges

September - The Infernal Trail des Vosges

But why does it have such a devilish name? No doubt the 200 km and 10,000 metre ascent of its Ultra Trail! But don't worry, there are also a number of more accessible trails of 33, 15 or 8 km to suit all levels of fitness.

Alsace

August-September - Ultra Trail du Haut-Koenigsbourg

At the end of the summer, the Ultra Trail du Haut-Koenigsbourg takes place in Alsace. Over the course of 102km, the bravest runners will cross the impressive Taennchel massif and admire the astonishing Vosges sandstone rocks, the majestic Ribeauvillé and Reichenberg castles, the Vallon des Moulins and, of course, the mysterious Roche des Fées... A break that's as physical as it is magical!

May - Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB

The Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB® is the 5th event on the circuit to take place on French soil. 4 races offer a unique opportunity to challenge yourself in a majestic setting. The backdrop is the Vosges mountains, the Alsatian vineyards and a finish on the ramparts of the picturesque town of Obernai. Over a distance of more than 175 km, no fewer than 20 castles are revealed to the brave sportsmen and women. A journey through time in short strides!

May-June - Paris-Alsace

Fancy taking part in the world's longest sporting walk? Just before the summer, don't miss this annual event, which starts in Château-Thierry in the Aisne and runs all the way to Colmar in Alsace. For the love of walking or to encourage friends and family, this is the perfect opportunity to discover the beautiful mountain roads of the Vosges. Finish your journey on the Alsace wine route: after the effort, the comfort!

May - Nancy-Metz on the march

Are you afraid of competition? In May, volunteers from the "Nancy-Metz à la marche" association are organising a range of walks, the sole aim of which is the pleasure of walking without a ranking. Set your own pace, take to the country lanes of the Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle regions in a delightfully bucolic setting!
