Coptic bookbinding workshop: create your own book with precious materials
Coptic bookbinding workshop: create your own book with precious materials
Plunge into the heart of an age-old tradition by learning Coptic bookbinding, one of the oldest codex binding techniques used since the 2nd century by Egypt’s first Christians, the Copts. This meticulous art, performed with curved needles, is particularly useful for repairing books with damaged seams. If you have a certain ease with sewing and are ready to invest several hours of painstaking work, this workshop is for you!
This Coptic bookbinding workshop is accessible to beginners, as long as you’re a bit at ease with sewing, especially when it comes to threading a needle and making simple stitches. Guided by a passionate expert, you’ll learn step-by-step how to bind each notebook by hand, creating a unique book.
This workshop will enable you to personalize your creation using precious materials: marbled papers, silk, cashmere, antique Indian fabrics, pashminas and hand-embroidered shawls. You’ll have the opportunity to work on the aesthetics of your pages with colored or gilded edges, choose motifs or threads in different colors, and create a luxurious cover that will turn your book into a work of art in its own right.
This workshop, limited to 5 participants, ensures personalized attention and a learning environment. At the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a luxurious book of your own!

I'm a versatile artist and craftswoman born in 1987 in Saint-Dié, Vosges, where I still live with my elderly cats, wool sweaters, hatred of capitalism and piles of books threatening to collapse. My first passion is bookbinding, which I've been self-taught since 2009, with the philosophy that anything can become a book, and anyone can make a book.
I'm also a draughtsman, author, painter, linocutter, embroiderer, papermaker and micro-publisher of small magazines and artist's books. On this platform, I offer courses for all ages and levels, in my own workshop in Saint Dié and other locations.
I'm passionate about natural materials such as cotton, wool, linen and silk. I'm fascinated by traditional textile arts, especially those from the East, ancient motifs, bright colors and handmade paper. I love paper in all its forms, and each technique is a way for me to explore and express the richness and diversity of this incredible material.
My aim is to capture a beauty that, while not spiritual, is sacred in my own way.
In my daily life, I am politically committed to social justice, equality, feminism and popular education. I believe that art should be a common good and a tool for social transformation, not a privilege reserved for the few.
