Ecomuseum of Alsace
Located in Ungersheim, the Ecomusée d'Alsace is a veritable cultural Mecca. You'll be immersed in the art of Alsatian living through its various installations and its many activities throughout the seasons. An immersive, dynamic and interactive experience awaits you at this address.
The Ecomusée d'Alsace welcomed its first visitors in 1984, and is now France's largest open-air museum. Arranged like a small village in the 20th century, it takes you on a journey back in time through its rural heritage. Its layout also represents nature and landscape through fields and gardens. It is home to more than 80 buildings representing the Alsatian architecture of the period. These include half-timbered houses, once the homes of the villagers. There's also a school, train station, chapel, farms and craft workshops.
Nearly 40,000 objects are collected at the Ecomusée, including antique furniture, clothing and accessories, and tools. At the Ecomusée d'Alsace, habits and customs reveal all their facets. Various exhibitions, events and participatory experiments take place throughout the year, introducing visitors to local cuisine, crafts and agriculture....
Traditional festivals, boat and cart rides, and collaborative workcamps are organized throughout the year. For example, the folk music festival, the conscripts' egg race, the harvest festival, the hardwood procession, summer nocturnes and many more are on the program.
Come and spend a day in the Alsace of yesteryear, and immerse yourself in a history rich in heritage and tradition!

--
BUILDINGS & BIODIVERSITY
Today, the Ecomusée d'Alsace consists of a village of 80 buildings representative of Alsace at the beginning of the 20th century, all dismantled from their commune of origin and reassembled in the museum. Around the village, on an area of 97 hectares, you'll find 4 signposted trails to discover biodiversity, as well as agricultural areas in biological transition.
Be curious! Push open the door of each house to discover the treasures it contains: a converted interior, an exhibition, a craftsman's workshop or a stable with animals!
