Want to learn more about the saddlery trade? With friends, alone or as a couple, come and discover leather work through this initiation course (limited to 6 people) supervised by Sarah Fallay-Rigal, craftsman saddler.
The making of your own custom-made belt will allow you to take your first steps in leatherwork. The know-how of the saddler and the discovery of the leather will be approached gently during these 3 hours in the workshop of Sarah.
Once the presentation of the workshop is done, you will take your measurements and calculate the necessary material. Various tools will be at your disposal, formoir, knives, abat-carre, punch, compass… Sarah will guide you in the realization of your piece, step by step. Come and immerse yourself for half a day to discover the different types of leather, learn about the material, use the different tools and leave with a custom-made object!
Sarah Fallay-Rigal followed a one-year training at the Haras de La-Roche-sur-Yon with Michel Charrier (MOF), after a stint as a saddler-harness maker and saddler at the Ecomusée d’Alsace, here she is installed on her own since 2018.
The work by hand is a priority in this workshop. As much as possible, the raw materials are selected in France. Thus Sarah Fallay-Rigal contributes, on her own scale, to the preservation of an entire industry that has been involved in the development of the skin for centuries. The leather of cattle, sheep and goats is indeed a by-product of butchery. Therefore, his work integrates us in the circle of recycling and reuse.

S.R. Equestrement Vôtre
Once I had my master’s degree in history and archaeology, and after a few months of reflection, I realized that, in order to combine my love of horses and my need to work with my hands, I needed to move towards a more manual profession. After a one year training at the Haras de La-Roche-sur-Yon with Michel Charrier (MOF), a period as a saddler and harness maker at the Ecomusée d’Alsace, I have been self-employed for more than 2 years. The heart of my know-how is the harnessing of horses, as well as other animals, such as oxen, goats and dogs for example. I also make different items of saddlery and leather goods, keeping some equestrian elements, like harness buckles and the leather used is usually the same as the one I use in the harnessing.
