Heart-shaped bookbinding workshop
Immerse yourself in the art of bookbinding with this unique workshop offered by La Friche, an artistic ecosystem in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges. Come and learn how to make a handmade notebook, inspired by the cordiform books of the Middle Ages, using the ancestral technique of Coptic binding. This traditional sewing method, which originated with the first Christians in Egypt, will enable you to create a notebook with handmade paper pages that open completely flat, ideal for writing or drawing.
Coptic binding, renowned for its elegance and sturdiness, is a meticulous technique that requires several hours’ work. Using curved needles, you bind each notebook by hand, forming a magnificent chain pattern visible on the spine. This ancient skill is also invaluable for restoring damaged books.
This workshop offers a full day’s immersion in the world of bookbinding, for participants aged 15 and over. You’ll benefit from personalized, friendly guidance throughout the day. All materials are provided, so all you need to do is bring your own lunch and enjoy a well-earned break.
Reserve your place now and leave with a unique notebook made by your own hands!

I'm a versatile artist and craftswoman born in 1987 in Saint-Dié, Vosges, where I still live with my elderly cats, wool sweaters, hatred of capitalism and piles of books threatening to collapse. My first passion is bookbinding, which I've been self-taught since 2009, with the philosophy that anything can become a book, and anyone can make a book.
I'm also a draughtsman, author, painter, linocutter, embroiderer, papermaker and micro-publisher of small magazines and artist's books. On this platform, I offer courses for all ages and levels, in my own workshop in Saint Dié and other locations.
I'm passionate about natural materials such as cotton, wool, linen and silk. I'm fascinated by traditional textile arts, especially those from the East, ancient motifs, bright colors and handmade paper. I love paper in all its forms, and each technique is a way for me to explore and express the richness and diversity of this incredible material.
My aim is to capture a beauty that, while not spiritual, is sacred in my own way.
In my daily life, I am politically committed to social justice, equality, feminism and popular education. I believe that art should be a common good and a tool for social transformation, not a privilege reserved for the few.
