Weekend discovery of ancestral techniques of creation of ebru and marbled paper
Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of marbled paper art, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, during an exceptional weekend with Zeynep Usyal! This renowned artist will introduce you to the history and secrets of this ancestral technique.
During this weekend, Zeynep Usyal will offer you a glimpse into the rich past of traditional ébru art, a method of paper decoration that has long adorned the covers of precious books. You'll learn how paints are delicately projected onto water and transformed into patterns using combs and styli, before being transferred to paper.
Zeynep discovered this technique in Turkey following an introductory course, then went on to train with a master marble artist in Izmir. Since then, she has perfected her techniques and shares them with passion. During the workshop, you'll get hands-on: you'll use traditional tools and pigment-based paints prepared on site to create your own works, experimenting with classic and modern motifs.
Don't miss this unique opportunity to discover the art of marbled paper with an expert. Whether you're an art lover, a history buff or simply looking for a new experience, this weekend promises to be unforgettable. L'Atelier du Papier marbré
One day, I discovered a book decorated with a circular paper called Ebru. Understanding, discovering and unravelling the mystery of this 18-century paper led me to the door of my marble master in Izmir, Turkey. This was the beginning of my quest for personal and professional harmony for over 13 years. Today, I'm known as a "marble artist on paper". The imprint of my artistic identity lies between tradition and creation.
I work with an ancient paper-decorating technique, which involves floating paint on a liquid surface and then completing the printing process by transferring the print onto the paper. This art known as Ebru (marbled paper) has been on UNESCO's intangible World Heritage list since 2014.
