Copistes” exhibition, in exceptional collaboration with the Musée du Louvre
Until February 2, 2026, the Centre Pompidou-Metz invites you to discover « Copistes », an ambitious and audacious exhibition that questions our relationship with artistic heritage. Housed in a masterpiece of contemporary architecture designed by Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines, the Centre Pompidou-Metz houses four exhibition galleries under a spectacular roof inspired by the shape of a Chinese hat. A veritable reference point for modern and contemporary art in the Grand Est region, it offers an exceptional setting for this new exhibition.
100 contemporary artists from a wide range of disciplines – painters, sculptors, designers and writers – have taken part in the same exercise: copying.
But here, the aim is not to reproduce faithfully, but to interpret, divert and bring into dialogue the masterpieces of the past with the creative forms of today.
The exhibition offers a fascinating reflection on the status of copying, long considered a fundamental learning tool before being rejected by modern art. By exploring this ancestral gesture from the angle of contemporary innovation, « Copistes » opens up a new path between transmission, transformation and reinvention.
Every day at 2pm, enjoy a guided tour open to all, without reservation. Included in the price of your ticket, this mediation allows you to explore the works through a guided reading, ideal for better understanding the artists’ intentions and the subtle links between original and copy.
Immerse yourself in this unique experience, where the art of copying becomes an act of creation in its own right, between homage and subversion. Book your ticket now to explore this unique exhibition and be amazed by the creative power of copying.
