Visit of the underground Citadel of Verdun
Be a soldier for a day and enjoy a unique experience! Play the role of soldier Jean, and meet his comrades to share the intense life of the Citadelle Souterraine. You'll relive the events that made this place a symbol, such as the Choosing of the Unknown Soldier.
The visit to the Citadelle Souterraine takes place in 3 stages: you'll start with a walking tour (15 to 30 mins): Verdun in the Great War. Discover the history of the Battle of Verdun, the state of the front in 1916, logistics, etc. And get to know the 4 soldiers you'll be following throughout the tour, thanks to "sound showers", panels and a video projection.
The tour then continues on foot and in a wire-guided gondola (35 min): The heart of the Citadelle Souterraine. Scan your ticket at the turnstile and enter the underground passages. After a video projection at the entrance to the galleries, proceed to the immersive boarding platform, climb into a gondola and put on your augmented reality helmet. Step into the shoes of soldier Jean Rivière and share, with three other soldiers, their visit to the Citadelle, an interlude in the Great War.
Finally, a walking tour (30 mins) immerses you in the memories of the Great War. To round off your visit, several modules on the history of the First World War are available. Leave the galleries on foot, passing through the old boiler room, mess hall and kitchens. Discover the history of the Citadelle since its creation on 3 informative touch screens. Finish your visit with a film that plunges you into the story of the Choice of the Unknown Soldier.
