When Nancy assumed its status as the capital of Eastern France at the end of the 19th century, becoming a modern metropolis, its city center was transformed into a veritable business hub. Bankers, entrepreneurs and merchants turned to the artists of the École de Nancy to build the Art Nouveau buildings that were so fashionable at the time.

Created at the instigation of Émile Gallé and bringing together art craftsmen and industrialists, the École de Nancy or "Alliance provinciale des Industries d'Art" aimed to contribute to the renaissance and development of art crafts in the provinces. As you stroll through the streets of the city center, which stretches between Place Stanislas and the railway line, you'll notice that the architectural creations and works give pride of place to floral motifs, arabesques and curves. It's worth noting that the Art Nouveau movement was strongly inspired by nature.
