The Charlemont guided tour is a voyage of discovery through the history of nations, geology, flora and fauna. Listed as a Monument Historique since 1927, this fortress, built in 1555 on the orders of Charles V, has witnessed numerous battles between the great powers of Europe. From 1961 to 2009, the site also became France's very first Commando Training Center.
Today, take over the fort and set out to conquer this majestic rocky promontory overlooking the Meuse valley. Your guide will show you the eastern tip of the site, and share with you the key moments in history that have left their mark here. Purchase of the self-guided tour entitles you to a guided tour (in French) of the imperial enclosure (departures from the reception building at 11 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm from April to June and September to October, and at 11 am, 1:30 pm, 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm in July and August). Registration on arrival at reception, no advance bookings.

Built to defend the empire of Charles V, the stronghold was subsequently coveted and besieged by all the great powers of Europe until 1914.
