Vallée Moreau – Guided tour
The Couleurs d’Argonne Tourist Office invites you on a thrilling expedition through history, in the heart of the Vallée Moreau. Enter the heart of the Argonne forest and explore a former German reserve camp, miraculously restored to its original state! This place steeped in history offers a fascinating insight into the daily life of German soldiers during the Great War.
Since 1997, a dedicated group of volunteers from the Franco-German Committee have been working to restore this historic camp in the « Vallée Moreau Ouest ». The site, built by German soldiers between February 1915 and September 1918, has been restored by these guardians of history.
A veritable open-air museum, this historic camp features various installations, including a power station, showers, latrines, a washhouse and a network of underground galleries. Various artifacts are also on display on the site, giving you a better understanding of the harrowing daily lives of German reserve soldiers during the 14-18 war. What’s more, during this guided tour, you’ll also have the opportunity to appreciate the specific military architecture, meticulously adapted to the geological and geographical conditions of the Argonne forest.
So, are you ready to immerse yourself in history? Put on seasonal clothing and comfortable walking shoes, and join us at the Office de Tourisme Couleurs d’Argonne for this adventure! Designed for groups of at least 6 adults, this tour will take place in a friendly atmosphere.
