Introduction to vineyard work: Palissage workshop – Domaine Champagne Piot-Sevillano

Discover an unusual activity at the Champagne Piot-Sevillano estate, which is certified as a High Environmental Value and Organic Farming. This family estate, handed down from generation to generation since the 18th century, is located in Vincelles, near Château-Thierry. The estate offers wine and gardening enthusiasts an exceptional workshop where they can discover the basics of vineyard work.

In one of the village’s open-air plots, you’ll learn the rudiments of tying and trellising, viticultural techniques that involve raising the vine shoots and guiding them along vertical supports, usually wires. This method ensures better exposure of the grapes to sunlight and better air circulation. The workshop is participatory, so you’ll have the opportunity to put the work into practice yourself by correctly positioning the wires, tensioning them, attaching the vine shoots to the wires and placing staples. We’ll provide you with the necessary materials, such as staples, a hat and water.

For an authentic experience, the Champagne Piot-Sevillano team will be at your service. They’ll guide you through the workshop and explain the basics of lifting/palissage. You’ll also have the opportunity to observe the estate’s vines up close and understand the importance of this technique in the cultivation of grapes destined for the production of Champagne wines. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a tasting session of three of the house’s flagship champagnes, which will take place on the panoramic terrace offering a breathtaking view of the Marne Valley.
