The Connoisseurs of Champagne
Discover the Côte des Blancs Grand Cru and the famous village and vineyard of Hautvillers in the historic Coteaux de Champagne listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site near Epernay, visit two families of independent producers, taste 6 Grand Cru/Premier Cru Champagnes and the 3 famous Champagne spirits!
In the famous Côte des Blancs, kingdom of the Chardonnay Grand Cru, and the historic Coteaux de la Champagne, where Champagne was born, visit 2 families of independent growers for several generations, with explanations of the Champagne-making process, and tours of the presses, vats and cellars.
Taste a wide range of Grand Cru and Premier Cru Champagnes: Champagne nature non dosé, extra brut, vieilles vignes, vintages, aged in oak barrels, parcellaires… Tastings include commentary and tasting tips.
In addition to tasting Champagnes, you’ll also discover the 3 famous Champagne spirits: Ratafia, Fine de la Marne and Marc de Champagne, produced by Distillerie Goyard, Champagne’s oldest distillery.
We’ll also take a guided tour of the famous Avenue de Champagne in Epernay, the capital of Champagne, where you’ll find the superb properties and production buildings of the Champagne houses Moët & Chandon, Perrier Jouët, Pol Roger, etc.
Our discovery tour of the vineyards and villages of the Côte des Blancs takes us past the Château de Saran, the prestigious property of the LVMH group (Dom Pérignon, Veuve Clicquot…) and the production site of Champagne Moët et Chandon.
In the famous village of Hautvillers, known as “the cradle of Champagne”, we’ll also thank Dom Pérignon at his tomb during a visit to the church where he served as a monk for decades. We’ll tell you his story and that of Champagne, and you’ll finally find out whether or not he was the inventor of Champagne!
We’ll also be sure to stop and admire one of Champagne’s finest panoramic views over the Marne Valley in the hillsides listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, planted mainly with Pinot Noir, exactly where Dom Pérignon carried out all his experiments. It’s the ideal spot in the heart of the vineyards to take unforgettable photos of you and this breathtaking landscape. It’s also where we’ll explain the workings of the vines and talk about sustainable viticulture.
Quite a program! Believe us, you’ll be a Champagne expert after this tour!
