Guided tour of the historical center of Nancy
Nancy's tourist office invites you to take a trip back in time and discover the capital of the Dukes of Lorraine.
Tracing the history of Nancy from the Middle Ages to the integration of the Duchy of Lorraine into the Kingdom of France, this guided tour will take you to the city's most emblematic sites, including the famous Place Stanislas, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Built by Stanislas Leszczynski to link the new town of Charles III with the old town, Place Stanislas is a jewel not to be missed. Contemplate the classical architecture of its facades, the finesse of its gold embellished gates and the poetry of its fountains. You'll understand why Nancy is known as the "City of Golden Gates". Along with the Place de la Carrière and the Place d'Alliance, it is part of the royal ensemble listed by UNESCO.
In the historic center, the Palais des Ducs will surely fascinate you with its flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance architecture. A few steps further and you'll find the Cordeliers church, home to the tombs of the Dukes of Lorraine. Nearby, the imposing Porte de la Craffe marks the medieval town's northern boundary.
