Guided tour of the historical monument, the Abbaye des Prémontrés
Do you love architecture or history? How about a historical escapade in the town of Pont-à-Mousson? Once a month, from June to December (except September), a guided tour of the Abbaye des Prémontrés historic monument will be open to the general public. It’s an opportunity to discover the architectural singularities of this 18th-century building, and to shed light on certain aspects of Mussipont and Lorraine’s history.
A visit to the Abbaye des Prémontrés is a fascinating journey through Lorraine’s art and history. Greatly marked by the rigors of war, this monastic monument has undergone numerous phases of transformation since the establishment of the Prémontrés community in Pont-à-Mousson around 1608, right up to the present day. A place of religious instruction, a civil and military hospital, a municipal library, a historic monument since 1906, and a cultural center… Each era has left its mark on the building, the key points of which will be recounted to you by your tour guide.
Lasting around 1 hour, this guided tour will also tell you about the abbey’s distinctive architectural features. Take time to explore the abbey church, the chauffoir, the refectory, and climb the matins staircase, enjoying every step. Time permitting, your guide will also take you to the estate’s remarkable gardens. The grandeur of the building will be revealed to you from the outside. A must-see!
Open to 20 people per session, this cultural tour also gives you free access to the abbey’s current exhibitions. Don’t hesitate to consult the center’s cultural program to kill two birds with one stone.
