Soulaines-Dhuys, the green Venice of the Aube – Guided tour
Nestled in a small valley between Aube and Haute-Marne, in the lush Champagne countryside, Soulaines-Dhuys offers visitors a remarkable heritage!
Join us for a 1h30 guided tour, accessible to children aged 12 and over. Tours depart from the tourist information office every Wednesday in July and August at 2pm. Outside the summer season, tours are available on request, subject to the availability of the Tourist Information Office team.
This small village is nicknamed the « Green Venice of the Aube », in reference to the three rivers that run through it: the Dhuys, the Laines and the Ru aux Vignes. They have given rhythm to the village’s history, even forming its name! Dhuys means « resurgence » in Old Celtic, referring to its own resurgence and the mill built in 1267.
Soulaines-Dhuys is a small village with character, where life is good. As you stroll through its streets, you’ll feel as if time has stood still, as the village’s houses are a blend of brick and half-timbered. Anecdotally, it was in this village that Nicolas Desmarets, an encyclopedist who worked alongside Diderot, was born. He modernized the village’s sanitation system, an important element in this little Venice of the Aube.
