Did you know that iron ore was also mined in Bourbach-le-Bas? Although potash is often associated with mining in Alsace, this land harbors many other riches. Discover the fascinating history of iron mining on this guided tour!
Put on your helmet and follow in the footsteps of 18th and 19th century miners! This adventure will plunge you into the history of the region’s mining industrialization, exploring the volcanic and sedimentary rocks that make up the subsoil. You’ll have the opportunity to visit 2 400 m-long galleries, still intact, guided by a technician from the association. The tour includes an exploration of the historic site and the former coal-mining site.
The guided tour includes an expert who will share with you his in-depth knowledge of the site’s history and geology. Helmets and lamps will be provided during the guided tour. Remember to wear clothes that can get dirty, high shoes and bring a small snack, as well as water to stay hydrated.
