Who was Charles de Gaulle really? A visit to his memorial invites you to truly discover the man behind the legend.
To understand this war hero, the Charles de Gaulle Memorial, located in Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises in the heart of the Grand Est region, is entirely dedicated to him. His life, his journey, and his accomplishments are showcased there through photos, documentary videos, and even collectible artifacts. Within the grounds of the building, surrounded by greenery, stands the famous Cross of Lorraine, the monument representing Free France, which was inaugurated on June 18, 1972, by President Georges Pompidou.
The Memorial features a 1,600-square-meter permanent exhibition dedicated not only to the life of Charles de Gaulle but also to all the major historical events from 1890 to 1970.
The tour is organized into chronological sections to accurately recount the history of France. Indeed, those who have forgotten their past cannot understand the present or grasp the future.

SE Mémorial Charles de Gaulle
Much more than a traditional presentation of the Man of June 18 or of the first President of the Fifth Republic, the Memorial is a true rendezvous with the history of the twentieth century and a meeting with Charles de Gaulle in his intimacy.
Designed like the base of the Cross of Lorraine, the building places Charles de Gaulle's character at the heart of modernity and in the landscapes of Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises, which he particularly liked.
It was in this commune that he chose to settle with his family in 1934 and that he made history by receiving Chancellor Konrad Adenauer in his family home in September 1958.
His family home, La Boisserie, has been open to the public for several decades, but Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises lacked a place to understand the character.
The Charles de Gaulle Memorial fulfills this role and completes a memorial trail dedicated to the most illustrious Frenchman of the 20th century.
