The vineyards of Montgueux
Head for the vineyards of Montgueux, one of the most famous in Champagne! Located on the outskirts of Troyes, don't miss a visit to the town centre, shaped like a Champagne cork.
This new stage in the Champagne Tourist Route takes you to a new height. Perched on a hill 268 metres above sea level, the Montgueux vineyard covers 15 hectares of Chardonnay vines. What makes it special? 90 million-year-old chalky soil that gives the wine exceptional properties... and a very expressive taste! It's been dubbed the "Montrachet of Champagne".
And don't forget to visit Troyes, in the Aube region. The medieval town is just ten kilometres from Montgueux. Here, you can set off to stroll through the narrow streets of the town centre, shaped like a champagne cork, particularly the picturesque Ruelle des Chats, lined with timber-framed houses typical of the area. Another must-see is the Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul cathedral, which boasts one of the finest stained-glass collections in France. In fact, Troyes boasts over 1,700 m² of stained glass windows, mainly in its religious buildings. The city even has one of the largest concentrations of old stained glass windows in France, dating mainly from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and right up to the 19th century. If you want to discover these marvels, head for the Cité du Vitrail, where you can admire exceptional collections of stained glass and learn more about the techniques and evolution of stained glass over the centuries. If you prefer shopping to historical discoveries, you should know that Troyes is Europe's capital of factory outlets. Perfect for a spot of shopping before hitting the road again.
