Guided tour of Sézanne and its streets
Sézanne is the western gateway to the Champagne region and to the entire Grand-East region, and the city offers great emotions to its visitors.
Take a guided tour of Sézanne and stroll through its cobbled streets and alleys while discovering its history and unusual places. At first glance, the city charms you with its very mineral aspect. When you enter the heart of the old city, you will be pleasantly surprised by these old houses with the Sézanne character which give you 10 centuries of history.
Through charming cobbled streets and streets with original buildings, the visit takes you on a real urban epic. You will observe closely the Baltard style market hall, the Prétoire which has become a municipal hall and the old college which is the socio-cultural center of Sézanne. In the rue de la Juiverie, contemplate an astonishing sundial adorning the facade of a beautiful old house and be inspired by its Latin inscription taken from an epistle of the poet Horace. Within the precincts of the Sézanne hospital, the Couvent des Récollets is well worth the detour of the art lovers.
Visible from afar thanks to its 42-meter square tower, the church of Saint-Denis dominates the center of Sézanne. It is a listed historical monument with its slender nave, its Renaissance stained glass windows, its choir fresco and its chapels. Nearby, as you stroll through the Place de la République, you won't miss the medieval-looking Échoppes. And right next to the church, you'll find the Town Hall in a former priory. The Petite Cité de Caractère de Champagne will not fail to surprise you!
